Can I Beat A US College Athlete? (& Former Student) #tennis
I’ve started a new series of videos where I play matches against a range of players and coaches whilst both wearing microphones. As well as being a fun way for me to make you videos, it’s going to mean that I can actually start playing more tennis and hopefully share some useful insights with you.
In episode 4, I face former student and current US college athlete, George. During the video we also chat about US college life so is an informative video for those interested in college tennis. Let me know what you think of this format?

In singles hit higher over the net than in doubles because you don’t want to make it too easy for the net player.

Slinger Bag customer service is top notch. Had an issue with the feeder, was unable to rectify after going through the trouble shooting. Slinger Bag exchanged in three business days. They followed up to ensure the replacement machine was registered for the warranty period.

Federer's footwork in the middle third of the court. He floated around to set his shots up. And Federer's serve placement. He would hit line after line. With his serve. David Ferrer's intensity and focus every point.

I usually get frustrated about my own strokes not at the person I play against. So keeping myself calm and collected performing my groundstrokes helps me tremendously in rallies. However, to have explosive footwork, I, from time to time actually slap myself in the face to be more energetic. 😂

There is a certain level of stress often released as anger that can improve a person's performance. However, controlling this is hard and if the anger levels go to high performance will drop off like jumping off a cliff. From a performance psychology perspective its about understanding how our players handle stress.

I'm Nick not Mac in this unfortunately. The other day I did get riled up when the guy didn't want to give me a let on a point where I Def should've gotten one. I made 7-8 points in a row, determined to not give him a single point anymore. Lead 4-1 but then I was empty. I definitely thrive better when I'm calm and focus on my in between point routine. Lately I've been having some serious injuries and I get so angry with my body that it's hard for me to let go and accept it in a match. Lots of frustration lately.

Your return grip should be combination of forehand and backhand, so that you can just react on big serves. You don't have any time on big serves to worry about grip.

  • @allainangcao28

The warm-up I do before hitting is shadow tennis my grip changes; getting the muscle memory of smoothly transitioning from my forehand to backhand and back to forehand. It helps a lot, especially when transitioning grips in the heat of play. When I rally with friends in a doubles setting, even if the ball isn't being hit towards me, I can change my grip accordingly based on the side it is being hit towards. Being able to recognize the ball even if it isn't directed towards you helps to learn how to cleanly transition from forehand to backhand and vice versa. Creating muscle memory, which can result in cleaner tennis.

To everyone complaining about needing spin or you'll hit long. Reduce your pace. Aim your shot. You'd be amazed how easily the average club pro can kick your ass just moving the ball around safely and with their shoes untied.

Great match, guys! Fantastic playing. Looks like George opted to go with the mic without the deadcat (windmuff). Definitely will help to have that on in the future to help with wind noise, especially with running around. Other option is to run the mics in stereo mode and record to individual L and R tracks then double in post production. Always enjoy watching your videos!
